Stained Glass Honeycomb Lantern

While my ultimate goal is to make this a DIY blog, my first post isn’t going to have much in the way of instructions.  To be honest, it’s more of a brag post so I can look back many years from now and pat myself on the back for having completed this in one weekend!

So here goes- I saw this great post on faceted pendants on the inter-web last week, and fell in love.  And when I saw the honeycomb pendant, I immediately said “I can make that!”  So I did.

But lets back up a couple days.  This is the ‘before’ shot of my dining room:

Shiny brass, ivory porcelain, candle-flame shaped bulbs, and mini-lamp shades.  Awesome, right?!  Maybe for 1991.

And here’s the upgraded dining room lighting situation:

Wohoo! Much more modern, young, and fun.  Just like me!

First, I found this Buckyball construction tutorial on the internet.  I printed it out, cut out my glass pieces, and went through the whole stained glass assembly process.

Once I had the globe constructed, I hit up Home Depot for some chain, a light socket, an extension cord, and a canopy kit.

I used this YouTube tutorial to teach myself how to swap out the light fixture.  And an hour later, I flipped the light switch back on and confirmed success!

Next up for the dining room… painting the walls, replacing the chair rail, adding a console table, and maybe new curtains?  We’ll get there eventually!
